Usman Hadi, who trumpeted the violent movement against Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, dies in Singapore
Opposition leader Usman Hadi, who trumpeted the violent movement against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh last year, died in Singapore on Thursday (18 December 2025). Osman Hadi was shot a few days ago, in which he was injured. Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus has expressed grief over his demise.
Muhammad Yunus said in his address to the nation that today I am presenting very sad news to all of you. Sharif Usman Hadi, the fearless warrior of the July uprising and the spokesperson of Inquilab Manch, who was undergoing treatment in Singapore, is no more with us. May Allah give them peace. Just a few moments ago, Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan informed me on the phone of this sad news. I pray that Almighty God may accept this immortal soldier of the struggle against fascism and imperialism as a martyr.
Yunus said let us all pray together. I express my deep condolence on the untimely demise of Sharif Usman Hadi. His demise is an irreparable loss in the political and democratic scenario of the nation. I pray for the peace of his soul and express my deepest condolences to his bereaved wife, family members, loved ones and colleagues.
The government will take responsibility for the welfare of martyr Osman Hadi’s wife and his only child. In view of the untimely demise of Martyr Sharif Usman Hadi, I declare a day of national mourning on the coming Saturday. To mark the occasion, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, public and private buildings and Bangladeshi embassies abroad on Saturday.
He said that after Friday prayers, special prayers will be organized in all mosques across the country for the peace of the soul of Martyr Usman Hadi. I urge all of you to participate in this. Special prayers will also be organized at places of worship of other religions. I express my special gratitude to the Singapore Government. He has shown utmost integrity and professionalism in his treatment of Hadi.
In particular, that of Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who is also a doctor. She personally looked after Hadi and kept me regularly updated about his medical condition. All the culprits involved in this brutal murder will be brought to justice as soon as possible and they will be given the harshest punishment. There will be no leniency in this matter.
