Mallikarjun Kharge took oath in Rajya Sabha after his mother had gone away in his childhood, the whole country was stunned to hear this.

News India Live, Digital Desk: The scene seen last night in the Winter Session of Parliament (Winter Session 2025) will always be remembered in the history of Indian politics. Often we see politicians screaming and shouting, but yesterday the entire House was stunned to see Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge crying and wailing. The matter was so serious that to get his point across, this 83 year old leader had to swear by his mother. What happened at midnight? The government was getting a new law ‘VB-G-RAM-G’ (Developed India Guarantee for Employment) passed in place of MGNREGA. The debate was going on, it was 12 o’clock at night, but the opposition was strongly against this bill. Meanwhile, when Kharge Saheb stood up to speak, his throat choked. He said in a trembling voice, “I swear on my mother, I swear on Mother India… This bill is against the poor. I had lost my mother in my very childhood… I know the pain. Don’t commit this sin.” Imagine, when such an experienced and elderly leader pleads with the government on oath on his dead mother, then how serious is the matter. Will be serious. Tears in his eyes and swearing on his tongue – this shook everyone present there. Why is Kharge angry and sad? This was not just sentimentality, behind it was the question of the livelihood of the poor. Kharge Saheb and the opposition are opposing this new ‘G-Ram Ji’ bill for three reasons: Insult of Bapu: ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ was added to the old name (MNREGA), but Gandhi ji has been removed from the new name (VB-G-RAM-G). Kharge says that the government is doing politics by using the name of Lord Ram (G-RAM) and is forgetting Bapu. Work guarantee ended? The opposition alleges that under the old law there was a legal right to demand work throughout the year. In the new bill, the government has put ‘Seasonal Pause’, that is, MNREGA work will remain closed during the farming season (like harvesting time). Kharge said that what will the poor man eat? Burden on the states: In this bill, the central government has also put the expense on the states. Kharge said that poor states already do not have money, how will they pay the workers? “Keep it in writing, you will have to apologise.” In his speech, Kharge gave a big warning to the government. Reminding the Modi government of the old days, he said, “Mark my words down, just as you had to take back three black farm laws, one day you will have to take back this law too. Today you are getting it passed on the strength of your strength, but the plight of the poor will not let you down.” Is this fight only in name? The government argues that in the new bill, the working days have been increased from 100 to 125 and the system will be transparent. But Kharge’s fear is that with the removal of this “guarantee”, the rights of the workers will become dependent on the ‘mercy’ of the officials. The bill was passed late in the night, but Kharge’s cry of “Maa Kasam” and tears are now touching everyone’s heart on social media. People are asking, is it necessary to erase Gandhiji’s name and tamper with the rights of the poor for ‘development’?
