Sri Lankan team announced for T20 World Cup, Dasun Shanaka becomes captain; List of 25 players released

Sri Lanka Unveil 25-member Preliminary Squad: T20 World Cup 2026 will start from February 7 in India and Sri Lanka. Now only less than 50 days are left for the start of this World Cup. In such a situation, all the teams are announcing the probable squad for this tournament. In this series, Sri Lanka has announced the probable list of 25 players. Now out of these 25 players, 15 players will be selected.

The hosting of T20 World Cup 2026 has been jointly handed over to India and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan team has started preparations for this tournament. Along with senior players, new players have also been included in the probable team for the World Cup. Dasun Shanaka has been made the captain for the T20 World Cup. Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Perera, Dhananjay de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella, Janith Liyanage, Charith Asalanka, Kamindu Mendis have been included as batsmen in this probable team.

The combination of batsmen and bowlers in this potential team looks good. For this time’s World Cup, the Sri Lankan team has given more importance to the spinners. Apart from Wanindu Hasaranga, Mahish Teekshana, Dunith Vellallage, other players have been included. Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara, Mathisha Pathirana, Ishaan Malinga, Pramod Madushan, Dilshan Madushanka, Milan Ratnayake have been included as fast bowlers.

Sri Lanka’s schedule for the World Cup

Sri Lanka’s first match will be played on 8 February. Sri Lanka will face Ireland. Sri Lanka’s second match will be against Oman on 12th February. The third match will be played against Australia on 16 February. The last match of the league round will be played against Zimbabwe on 19 February.
