Ashok Sharma Joins Gujarat Titans: Pat Cummins’ Influence

Recently, Gujarat Titans (GT) have signed up the domestic quickie Ashok Sharma, who has been creating a lot of buzz with his blazing speed in the domestic matches His performance as a testament to his skills, and he finished with 22 wickets as the highest wicket-taker in the syed mushtaq ali trophy (smat 2025). But it was his pace that got all the attention, recording 150kmph consistently at a level of 145-plus.
The interesting thing about the 2022 rookie is his big transformation from getting the INR 55 lakhs IPL deal with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to not getting any playing time. In the last season’s mega-auction, he got his way back to the rajasthan royals for IPL 2025 after having previously served as their net bowler but still has not made his IPL debut.
The 23-year-old shared his journey with GT and how the SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad) skipper, Pat Cummins, had given him a pace-up arrow through his advice.
“I never thought about it. I just wanted to keep my speed and and right length. 2022 was a year of much time spent with Pat Cummins,” Ashok told TOI.
“I asked him about length and what I could do better. He posed me the question: ‘What is your strength?’ Every bowler has one – some swing it, some seam it. He wanted to know what was my perceived strength. I said I could hit a hard length with a good pace. He told me to stick to that. Whenever I practise, I always remember his words. They still echo in my ears.”
Ashok Sharma bolsters up Gujarat Titans’ Indian pace department
The inclusion of Ashok will not only make their Indian pace department, which already consists of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, more robust but also provide a good reserve of quality. Besides, with Kagiso Rabada and their newcomer Luke Wood, a left-arm pacer, GT has a very powerful pace attack.
Rashid Khan is one of the biggest names in that the spin department, along with Indian all-rounders R Sai Kishore and Washington Sundar in the team, is a match-winning case.
