An Australian man died after suffering severe blood loss when he reportedly ran into a glass door at a restaurant in Thailand’s Phuket last week.
Police were alerted to the incident at the Cappadocia Turkish restaurant in Phuket’s Karon district at about 10.30 p m. on Dec 11, Tiger reported.
Officers found shattered glass and a large pool of blood at the restaurant entrance, while the man had already been taken to Chalong Hospital.
Security camera footage reviewed by police showed the man dining alone before he began behaving erratically, repeatedly nodding and shaking his head while appearing confused and disoriented.
As his behaviour escalated, nearby diners moved away, The Standard reported.
When restaurant staff approached to offer assistance, the man suddenly stood up, began screaming, and ran headlong into the glass door, shattering it on impact before collapsing outside the restaurant.
Despite emergency treatment, the man later died from his injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of his death including whether alcohol, drugs or mental health issues may have been contributing factors.
