‘Violence and hatred…’, Yunus government’s big statement on Bangladesh uproar, said- Democracy in danger!

Bangladesh Latest News In Hindi: The Mohammad Yunus-led interim government issued its first official statement on Friday amid ongoing political instability and violent incidents in Bangladesh. The Government strongly and unequivocally condemned the mob violence, intimidation, arson and destruction of property taking place in the country and appealed to the citizens to maintain peace.

The interim government said that the present time is a very important turning point in the history of Bangladesh and it cannot be allowed to be derailed by some anti-social elements who want to spread anarchy. According to the government, the atmosphere of violence and fear could seriously harm the democratic process especially as the country heads towards upcoming elections.

Attacks on journalists

The Yunus government called on all citizens to oppose all forms of mob violence. The statement said that only peace, restraint and responsibility can protect the dream for which martyr Sharif Usman Hadi sacrificed his life. The government said that honoring their sacrifice is possible only when the society completely rejects hatred and incitement.

The interim government also took a tough stance on attacks on journalists. Expressing support for the journalists of ‘The Daily Star’, ‘Prothom Alo’ and ‘New Age’, the government said that the attacks on journalists are a direct attack on truth and democracy. The government assured that complete justice will be ensured in cases of violence against journalists.

Hindu man beaten to death

The statement also strongly condemned the lynching of a Hindu man by a mob in Mymensingh. The government made it clear that there is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh and the perpetrators of this heinous crime will not be spared under any circumstances. The government called it an attempt to break the social fabric.

Earlier, a Facebook post late on Thursday night had also warned about violence. The post said that some groups are trying to make Bangladesh an ineffective state through deliberate destruction and arson. The government appealed to people to understand who would really benefit from the unrest, with an eye on elections in February. The interim government ultimately appealed to citizens to cooperate with the government, refrain from violence, and maintain stability in the country so as to safeguard the democratic process.
