A powerful earthquake of 4.1 magnitude struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan early Friday, according to the German Geological Research Center.

The earthquake struck at 0539 GMT, with its epicenter 61 kilometers (38 miles) from the northern city of Kunduz and a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

Last month, a powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan provinces including Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan and Kunduz, killing at least 27 people and injuring 956.
