America is imposing sanctions on ICC judges to target Israel
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the US is imposing sanctions on two judges of the International Criminal Court for targeting Israel.
“Today, I am nominating two ICC judges, Gocha Lordkipanidze of Georgia and Erdenablesuren Damdin of Mongolia, under Executive Order 14203,” Rubio said, referring to the ICC sanctions order signed by President Donald Trump in February.
Why did America take this decision?
“These individuals have directly participated in efforts by the ICC to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute Israeli citizens without Israeli consent,” he said. America and Israel are not members of ICC. The US sanctions imposed in February include freezing any US assets of the named individuals and barring them and their families from coming to the US.
