Ranchi: The case of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar trying to remove the hijab of a female doctor during a public program now seems to be taking a legal turn. Social and political activist Mohd. Mohd., resident of Itki, Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. A delegation led by Murteja Alam has applied to register an FIR against the Chief Minister in Itki police station in this regard. According to the complainant Murteja Alam, recently during a government appointment letter distribution ceremony held in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar publicly interfered with the hijab of a Muslim female doctor present on the stage.

It is alleged that the Chief Minister tried to touch and remove the woman’s hijab in front of the cameras and a huge crowd. The video of this incident has gone viral on social media and news channels. In the application, this act of the Chief Minister has been termed as unconstitutional and insulting and it is a violation of religious and personal freedom. It has also been said that Hijab is an integral part of the religious faith and privacy of Muslim women. Touching it without consent is a violation of Article 25 (Religious Freedom). Such treatment of a woman’s attire on a public platform is a direct attack on her modesty and bodily autonomy.

Till the time of writing the news, no official response has been received from the police in this matter.
