New Delhi. Former Maharashtra minister and Ajit Pawar faction NCP MLA Manikrao Kotake has got a big relief from the Bombay High Court today. The High Court has accepted the bail application of Manikrao Kotake. Nashik Court had sentenced the NCP MLA to two years imprisonment in the case of fraud and forgery related to flat allotment. Kotake had resigned from the post of minister yesterday itself. Today the High Court has approved his bail application on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The Nashik Sessions Court had issued an arrest warrant against Manikrao Kokate, which he challenged in the High Court. Now after getting bail, he will not be arrested.

The case in which Kokate has been convicted dates back to 1995. Kotake was found guilty of alleged misuse of the 10 per cent quota for the economically weaker section (EWS) in a housing scheme. Kokate is currently admitted in Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. His medical report was also presented in the court. Kokate’s lawyer told the court that his client is currently admitted in the ICU and doctors have asked for his angioplasty.

After this matter came to light, Ajit Pawar came under attack from the opposition. On Kokate’s resignation, Ajit Pawar had said that in line with the long-term ideology of our party, the rule of law is paramount and above all individuals. We strongly believe in the rule of law. He had said that we will take whatever steps are necessary to maintain democratic values and public trust. Let us tell you that Manikrao Kokate is a five-time MLA from Sinnar assembly seat of Nashik district of Maharashtra. He has a good influence in his assembly constituency.
