PUC Now Mandatory for CNG Vehicles in Delhi: No Certificate, No CNG from December 18
PUC mandatory for CNG vehicles in Delhi: As winter sets in, air pollution levels in the national capital have once again started rising sharply. Toxic air is affecting public health, prompting the Delhi government to take stricter measures to control emissions. This time, even CNG vehicle owners have not been given any relaxation. The government has made it clear that pollution control rules will now apply equally to all vehicles, regardless of fuel type.
If you drive a CNG vehicle in Delhi, you must now carry a specific document before stepping out. Without it, you may have to return empty-handed from the CNG station. This decision is directly linked to pollution control efforts, and its impact is expected to be clearly visible on Delhi’s roads in the coming days.
Only Vehicles With a Valid PUC Will Get CNG
According to an official notification from the Delhi government, from Thursday, December 18, 2025, only vehicles with a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be allowed to refuel with CNG in Delhi. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has also confirmed this decision through its official statement.
IGL has clarified that if a vehicle owner fails to show a valid PUC certificate at the time of refueling, CNG will not be provided. The company has urged all consumers to update their PUC certificates in advance. The primary aim of this move is to curb the rapidly increasing air pollution levels in the capital.
Strict Rules Even for CNG Vehicles
This is the first time such strict enforcement is being seen for CNG-powered vehicles in Delhi. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that no vehicle below BS4 emission standards—whether petrol, diesel, or CNG—will be allowed to enter Delhi. This rule also applies to privately registered vehicles within the city. A one-day relaxation was given till December 17, after which the restrictions came into full effect.
Rules Applicable Across All Fuel Types
The authorities have made it clear that the ban applies to all fuel types. For vehicle owners traveling from NCR cities to Delhi, helpline numbers 011-25844444 and 1095 are available for assistance. Delhi Police has also reiterated that compliance with pollution-related documents is mandatory.
What Vehicle Owners Should Do Now?
If you plan to drive in Delhi, ensure all your vehicle documents, especially the PUC certificate, are valid and up to date. Failing to do so may result not only in the denial of CNG refueling but also in potential penalties. With pollution control now being strictly enforced, a small step like updating your PUC can help avoid inconvenience and contribute to cleaner air.
