Uttarakhand SDG ranking, Champawat becomes first, districts are being tested on the criteria of development on the initiative of Chief Minister Dhami.

Dehradun: A new system has been introduced on the initiative of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to speed up development work in Uttarakhand and promote a healthy competition among the districts. Now the performance of all the districts of the state will be assessed on the basis of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators and their monthly ranking will be released.

In the first monthly report released under this new system, Champawat district has secured the first position by securing 96 points. Chief Minister Dhami has congratulated the districts which are performing better in this race of development and has inspired the lagging districts for improvement.

Champawat number one, Bageshwar and Nainital also in top-3

This ranking has been prepared by the Center for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG) under the Department of Planning. For the first ranking, data from a total of 39 indicators of 11 Sustainable Development Goals were analyzed from April to October.

In this evaluation, Champawat topped with 96 marks. Whereas, Bageshwar stood second with 94 points and Nainital stood third with 92 points. CPPGG Special Executive Officer Amit Punetha said that the districts whose performance has been weak are expected to meet the targets in the remaining time of the financial year. He also indicated that in future, as per the need, new indicators can also be used as the basis of ranking.

Strong identity of Uttarakhand at the national level

Uttarakhand is among the leading states of the country in achieving sustainable development goals. Uttarakhand had proved its commitment by securing first position in the SDG India Index 2023-24 released by NITI Aayog. The SDGs aim to create a better future by eliminating poverty, hunger and inequality from the world by 2030. UN member states adopted these goals in 2015.

“An effective action plan has been made to rapidly achieve the goals of sustainable development in the state. Congratulations to Champawat district which stood first in the ranking of the districts and other districts which have performed well. All the districts should continuously strive for better performance. Special attention should be paid to the goals and indicators in which we need improvement.” — Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister, Uttarakhand

The Chief Minister has clarified that the main objective of this ranking is to realize the concept of overall development of the state and to improve the standard of living of the common man. He has instructed all the District Magistrates to achieve the set targets on time.
