Matt Renshaw, Wildermuth Tons Waltz Brisbane Heat to Record BBL Chase

A solid century from Matt Renshaw and Wildermuth has guided Brisbane Heat to make a record-breaking run chase during the BBL 2025-26 game against Perth Scorchers at Brisbane.

Brisbane Heat secured a stunning 8-wicket victory against Perth Scorchers after chasing a 258-run target in Friday’s clash. They made a significant movement but still hang in the middle rankings in the BBL 2025-26 points table.

After invited to bat first, Perth Scorchers made a solid start despite Mitchell Marsh’s cheap dismissal for 3 runs.

However, Finn Allen and Cooper Connolly made solid partnership adding up 79 and 77 runs respectively before being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi and Jack Wildermuth.

With significant contributions from Aaron Hardie and Nick Hobson Perth Scorchers added crossed 250-run mark.

Along with Turner’s 12 and Laurie Evans 16* runs, Perth Scorchers scored a mammoth 257 run total in their 20 over innings.

Xavier Bartlett picked two wickets each while Shaheen Afridi, Jack Wildermuth, Liam Haskett and Kuhnemann bagged 1 wicket each.

In the pursuit of chasing 258 run target, Colin Munro and Jack Wildermuth opened the innings while Jhye Richardson opened the bowling attack.

With Munro’s dismissal on a golden duck, Matt Renshaw joined Jack Wildermuth to slaughter Scorcher’s bowlers as both went on to score centuries.

Matt Renshaw scored 102 runs off 51 deliveries which included 5 fours and 9 sixes before being dismissed on a run out. After Renshaw’s dismissal, Max Bryant joined Jack to add 28 runs before backing to dug out with retired hurt.

Meanwhile, Wildermuth remained unbeaten scoring 110 runs of 54 deliveries which included 5 fours and 9 sixes.

In the final over of the game, Brisbane Heat secured a 8 wicket victory against Perth Scorhcers at Gabba.

Matt Renshaw was named as the Player of the match. Speaking on the post match presentation, “I still don’t really believe it. It’s a bit of a pinch-me moment, lots of goosebumps. An incredible effort.”

“I think a lot of people probably wrote us off, and to be honest, we might have as well after losing a wicket first ball. But having Wildermuth at the other end was massive. I’ll definitely be sharing this with him, he deserves probably half of it, maybe more,” added Renshaw.

“That never-say-die attitude made all the difference. It was one of those strange ones (partnership) where we didn’t talk too much,” said Matt Renshaw.

Brisbane Heat will play their next match against Sydney Thunder on December 22 at Manuka Oval, Canberra.
