Kolkata’s famous Kalighat temple, where Nakuleshwar Bhairav is the protector, the fierce form of Maa Durga is worshipped, know the secret related to Shiva-Sati.
There is the famous Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata, West Bengal, which is the sacred Shaktipeeth depicting the fierce form of Mother Durga. Where devotees come from far and wide to seek blessings of Maa Kali. When it comes to the origin and operation of the universe, the names of the three Trinity are taken first. But, the functioning of the universe is incomplete without Mother Durga. She is a simple form of nature, who has the power of both creation and destruction.
Kalighat temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
Kalighat Kali Temple, dedicated to the fierce form of Goddess Durga, is included in the 51 Shakti Peethas. Here the mother is not present alone, but Lord Shiva is also present. The statue of Maa Kali present in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is very amazing, which is finely carved on black stone. Mother has four hands, big eyes and a long tongue, which completes her fierce look.
Sati’s right toe had fallen here
The mythological story of the temple is related to the suffering of Lord Shiva and the burning of Mother Sati. It is believed that a part of Sati’s body had fallen at this place during Shiva’s Tandava. Here the toes of the right foot of Goddess Sati, the form of Shakti, had fallen.
Nakuleshwar Bhairav protects
Nakuleshwar Bhairav also appeared as the protector of Mother Sati. Here there is a ‘Swayambhu Lingam’ of Nakuleshwar Bhairav, which is deployed to protect the mother.
Second story of Kalighat temple
According to another mythological story, devotee Bhagiratha had seen a light emanating from the river, when he went there and looked, he saw a thumb in the form of a human being and along with it Shivalinga. Bhagiratha worshiped both of them and established them as temples, which were later known as Nakuleshwar Bhairava.
Belief related to miraculous well for child happiness
Earlier the temple was of the size of a small hut, but later in the 16th century, Raja Mansingh got the temple constructed. After that a big and wonderful temple was built by Sabarna Roy Choudhary of Banisha. There is also a miraculous well present in the courtyard of the temple, which is said to be as sacred as Mother Ganga. It is said that if couples facing difficulties in conceiving a child take a bath in the pond, they are blessed with a divine child.
Famous temple for Tantra Vidya and Aghor Sadhana
The temple of Maa Kali is famous for Tantra Vidya and Aghor Sadhana. In the temple of Aghori Maa, rituals are performed to prove Tantra Vidya. There is more crowd of devotees in the temple on Tuesday and Friday. When their wishes are fulfilled, devotees also offer sacrifice to the Mother Goddess.
