Tilak Varma Breaks Rohit Sharma’s Record: Indian team’s middle-order batsman Tilak Verma has achieved a big achievement in the fifth match of the five-match T20 series played between India and South Africa. Tilak Verma created history by scoring a half-century in the fifth match. With his innings of 73 runs, Tilak Verma broke Rohit Sharma’s record.

During his inning of 73 runs in India’s last international match of 2025, young Hyderabad cricketer Tilak Verma broke Rohit Sharma’s record of 429 runs and became the highest run-scorer for India in T20Is against South Africa. Rohit played 18 T20Is against South Africa from September 2007 to June 2024 and scored a total of 429 runs, while Tilak now has 496 runs in 10 T20Is against the African team.

Tilak Verma needed only 7 runs to break this record of Rohit Sharma. He achieved this feat on the second ball of the seventh over. Now he has become the first batsman for India to score the most runs in T20I against South Africa.

Tilak Verma scored the most runs for India in the fifth T20I against South Africa. Tilak came to bat at number 3 for the hosts on Friday (December 19) and scored 73 runs in just 42 balls. He hit 10 fours and 1 six while at the crease and added 105 runs for the fourth wicket with Hardik Pandya, who scored 63 runs in 25 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Thanks to these two, the Indian team scored 231 runs in 20 overs. In reply, South African team could score only 201 runs. The Indian team won the T20 series 3-1.
