BMC elections: AAP will contest on all 227 seats, first list of 21 candidates released
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday (December 19) said it will contest all 227 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seats and released its first list of 21 candidates. AAP said in a statement that Mumbai is in a bad condition. BMC’s annual budget is Rs 74,447 crore – the largest in Asia. Mumbaikars pay the highest taxes in the country, yet receive poor public services.
The statement quoted AAP’s Mumbai unit chief Preeti Sharma Menon as saying, ‘BMC is a den of corruption. Every political party has looted Mumbai and given priority to its self-interest above public interest. He said that Aam Aadmi Party is not only the alternative but also the solution and Mumbai is in great need of some good people in BMC.
“We know how to improve governance,” Menon said. Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, we have done this in Delhi and Punjab, providing world-class education, healthcare, water and electricity without corruption and debt. Voting for 29 municipal bodies, including Mumbai, will be held on January 15, while the results will be declared the next day.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that recently party leaders from Mumbai went to Delhi and met national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. There was a discussion with him about the elections of Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He said that Aam Aadmi Party has to contest elections here but has to fight alone. Don’t fight with anyone.
Sanjay Singh said that efforts are being made to field good candidates so that they can solve the everyday problems of the people. The people of Mumbai gave us three lakh votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
