Venkatesh Iyer will lead Madhya Pradesh team in Vijay Hazare Trophy

New Delhi 20 December 2025: Vijay Hazare Trophy Venkatesh Iyer became the captain just a few days after the IPL 2026 match. It seems that even after the poor season of IPL 2025, the teams’ confidence in him has not diminished. Iyer has been appointed as the captain of Madhya Pradesh team for the 2025-26 season of Vijay Hazare Trophy. This Indian domestic tournament, played in ODI format, will start from December 24.

Venkatesh Iyer was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7 crore in the mini-auction of IPL 2026. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants had also bid for Iyer. His old team KKR had bid Rs 6.80 crore for him, but ultimately, RCB bought Iyer for Rs 7 crore.

Venkatesh Iyer became captain
Venkatesh Iyer will lead the Madhya Pradesh team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He will replace Rajat Patidar, who had led RCB to the IPL 2025 title. Under Patidar’s captaincy, the Madhya Pradesh team has performed well in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Considering this performance, the omission from Patidar’s team is surprising.

Madhya Pradesh reached the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but failed to reach the finals. Venkatesh Iyer scored 211 runs in 10 matches in that tournament.

This year many big stars will participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant have also confirmed participation in the upcoming tournament.

MP team for Vijay Hazare Trophy: Venkatesh Iyer (Captain), Harsh Gawli, Himanshu Mantri, Yash Dubey, Shubham Sharma, Harpreet Singh, Rishabh Chauhan, Hrithik Tada, Kumar Karthikeya, Saransh Jain, Shivang Kumar, Aryan Pandey, Rahul Batham, Tripuresh Singh, Mangesh Yadav, Madhav Tiwari.
