Malayalam cinema legend Sreenivasan passes away at the age of 69, know about the actor and director
Famous Malayalam cinema actor, screenwriter, director and producer Srinivasan died on Saturday at the age of 69. Srinivasan worked in more than 225 films and wrote scripts for many iconic films such as ‘Nadodikkattu, Sandesham’, ‘Mazhayethum Munpe’ and Njan Prakashan. He also directed films like ‘Vadakkunokkiyantram’ and ‘Chintavishtaya Shyamala’. His work had a unique blend of social satire with comedy, which took Malayalam cinema to new heights.

The actor was born on 6 April 1956 in Pattiyam village near Thalassery in Kannur district of Kerala. After studying at Kuthuparamba Middle School and Kadirur Government High School, he took training from the Film Institute of Chennai. He is survived by his wife Vimala, a retired teacher, and two sons – Vineet Srinivasan (singer, actor, director and producer) and Dhyan Srinivasan (actor, director). Both are active in Malayalam cinema.
Who was Srinivasan?
Srinivasan started his career in 1976 with the film ‘Manimuzhakkam’. He was awarded the Kerala State Award for directing Vadakkunokkiyantram and won the National Award for ‘Chintavishtaya Shyamala’. Srinivasan died on 20 December 2025 at the age of 69. Earlier, he was suffering from heart related problems and had bypass surgery in 2022. Malayalam cinema has suffered an irreparable loss due to his demise. His contribution will always be remembered. However, his fans are shocked by his demise and they are paying humble tribute through social media.

She worked in 225 films, but writing social and political satire brought her popularity, especially her pairing with Mohanlal. Another wrote, ‘Tribute to the great Srinivasan! Malayalam cinema has lost one of its excellent screenwriter, director and actor.
