Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi sentenced to 17 years, court gives verdict in corruption case

Pakistan News: A special court of Pakistan on Saturday sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in jail each in the Toshakhana-2 case. This decision was given by the special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

According to Dawn’s report, this case is related to the purchase of an expensive Bulgari jewelery set at a very low price. This decision was given by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand during the hearing held in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is currently lodged.

17-17 years imprisonment

The court gave a total sentence of 17 years to Imran Khan, which included 10 years rigorous imprisonment under section 409 of criminal breach of trust and seven years under section 5(2)47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bushra Bibi has also been sentenced to 17 years under the same sections. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 1.64 crore has also been imposed on both of them. According to the rules, in case of non-payment of fine, additional punishment will have to be faced.

After the decision, the legal team of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi has announced to challenge this decision in the High Court. Both were formally charged in the case in December last year.
