No OTP, no password, still your WhatsApp account can be stolen, know how?
WhatsApp Cyber Fraud: WhatsApp A very serious and shocking threat has emerged for the users. Amidst the ever increasing cyber crimes, a scam has now been exposed which requires neither OTP nor password. cyber security company Gen Digital has exposed this new fraud, which is called “Ghost Pairing Scam” The name has been given. The most scary thing about this scam is that the user does not even know and his WhatsApp account goes under someone else’s control.
How is the scam net laid?
GhostPairing scam is completely based on social engineering. It starts with a contact you trust. The message goes something like this “Hello, I have received this photo of you!” Or any similar general message. As soon as the user clicks on the link given to view that photo, he reaches a fake Facebook page. There, in the name of viewing the photo, verification is demanded from the user.
How does Ghost Pairing Scam work?
The user is asked to enter his phone number on the fake page. WhatsApp generates a pairing code as soon as you enter the number. During this, hackers assure the user that this code is only for security check. But as soon as the user enters that code in his WhatsApp, he unknowingly makes the hacker’s browser his linked device. After this the hacker gets access to the entire account through WhatsApp Web. He can read your messages, view files and send messages to anyone on your behalf.

Why is it so difficult to recognize?
There is no fault in WhatsApp’s software in this scam. Rather, the Device Linking feature of the app is misused. The phone continues to work normally, so the user does not even suspect that someone else is seeing his messages. This is the reason why this scam is spreading rapidly from one contact to another.

To avoid this danger, go to Settings ~ Linked Devices of WhatsApp and keep checking from time to time. If any unknown device appears, log out immediately. Do not click on any unknown link or enter any pairing code in WhatsApp on anyone’s request. Apart from this, always keep Two-Step Verification on on your WhatsApp account.
