Surya will no longer be the captain of Team India after T20 World Cup! BCCI is making a new plan
Mumbai:The current poor form of Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill is definitely a matter of concern for the selectors, but despite this, there is no possibility of any major upheaval in the team for the T20 World Cup 2026. The national selection committee is likely to announce a 15-member team on Saturday and indications are that the trust will be placed on experience and consistency only.
BCCI has scope for change
According to BCCI rules, changes can be made if necessary in the 15-member team selected for the T20 World Cup starting from February 7. Earlier also during the Champions Trophy, changes were made in the team at the last moment considering the circumstances. In such a situation, the selectors can choose the safe option for now and take future decisions according to the situation.
Is this World Cup the last chance for Suryakumar?
Although no one is saying this openly within the BCCI, it is believed that this T20 World Cup to be held in India could be the last big opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav as captain. 35-year-old Suryakumar has been struggling with form for the last one year. Despite this, his experience and ability to change the course of the match is maintaining the confidence of the selectors.
Question on the status of Shubman Gill
Vice-captain Shubman Gill’s performance has also been under constant questioning in T20. However, Gill, who has held the captaincy in Test and ODI, is being considered as the future all-format captain, hence the selectors will not want to take the risk of dropping him at the moment. Yashasvi Jaiswal can benefit from his poor form, who is consistently performing impressively.
Yashasvi Jaiswal can become a surprise pick
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s name can prove to be the biggest surprise in the selection. He has proven himself to be a more aggressive and useful T20 batsman than Gill and Sanju Samson. However, due to the presence of Gill as vice-captain and Sanju as second wicketkeeper, it is not easy for Jaiswal to make a place directly in the playing eleven.
Sanju and Jitesh’s claim in wicketkeeping
Jitesh Sharma remains the first choice for the role of wicketkeeper, who also plays an important role as a finisher. Sanju Samson can remain in the team as reserve wicketkeeper. There does not seem to be much confusion among the selectors regarding this slot.
Reliance on all-rounders and bowling
All-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Shivam Dubey give balance to the team. Whereas in bowling, names like Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakraborty make the team strong. Although Washington Sundar’s performance in this format has not been up to expectations, he may still get a chance as a bowling all-rounder.
Probable team and standby
On paper, this team looks very strong, in which most of the players are experienced names of IPL and international cricket. But the biggest concern is the poor form of the two top order batsmen, which can become a challenge for the team in big tournaments.
Emphasis will be on continuity
With only a few matches left before the start of the World Cup, the selection committee may give priority to continuity rather than any big experiment. The coming matches will decide whether this confidence is justified or whether changes will be necessary.
