Priyanka Gandhi and Ashok Gehlot target the Centre
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi expressed her anger on social media platform ‘X’. She said, “Killing on the basis of religion or identity is not acceptable in any civilized society. The Indian government should take serious note of the violence against Hindu, Christian and Buddhist minorities in Bangladesh.” On the other hand, former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has also criticized the Modi government. “Why is the central government sitting as a silent spectator on such a serious issue?” He asked that question. Gehlot has demanded that India’s silence is giving strength to external forces and the government should immediately guarantee the safety of Hindus there through diplomatic intervention.
The news of the brutal killing of Hindu youth Deepu Chandra Das by mob in Bangladesh is very alarming. Discrimination, violence and killing on the basis of religion, caste, identity etc. are crimes against humanity in any civilized society.

The fate of minorities in Bangladesh hangs in the balance
Following the August 2024 coup d’état, the Hindu population of Bangladesh has continued to be targeted. Incidents like burning of houses, vandalism of temples and now outright ‘mob lynching’ have created an atmosphere of fear among the minorities there. Although Bangladesh’s interim government has condemned the incident and promised to “not spare the perpetrators”, the violence does not seem to be stopping in practice. The situation of Hindus in Bangladesh is no longer just an internal issue of that country. This is a matter of concern for India, and the issues raised by Priyanka Gandhi and the Congress are increasing pressure on the Modi government at the international level. Now, what concrete action the central government takes on this, everyone’s attention is drawn.
