U-19 Asia Cup: Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre were flops, yet India entered the final by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets.

India vs Sri Lanka Under, U-19 Asia Cup 2025 Semi Final: In the Under-19 Asia Cup semi-final, India defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in a rain-affected match. Chasing Sri Lanka’s target of 139 runs, after initial setbacks, Team India booked its ticket to the final with the brilliant half-centuries of Vihaan Malhotra and Aaron Varghese.

The first semi-final of the Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup between India and Sri Lanka was played on Friday, 19 December in Dubai. Due to rain and wet outfield, the match was reduced to 20-20 overs. After winning the toss, the Indian team decided to bowl first.

Sri Lanka, who came to bat first, had a very bad start. Opener Dulnith Sigera was out after scoring just 1 run, while Veeran Chamuditha could only add 19 runs. After this, captain Vimath Dinsara scored 32 runs in 29 balls. Chamika Heenathigala scored 42 runs in 38 balls and Sethmika Seneviratne played important innings of 30 runs in 22 balls, but the rest of the batsmen could not survive. Due to which the Sri Lankan team could score only 138 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.

In India’s bowling, Henil Patel and Kanishk Chauhan took 2 wickets each. Whereas Kishan Kumar Singh, Deepesh Devendran and Khilan Patel got 1 success each.

The start of the Indian team, which came to chase the target of 138 runs, was also not special. Captain Ayush Mhatre returned to the pavilion after scoring 7 runs and Vaibhav Suryavanshi returned to the pavilion after scoring 9 runs. After this, Vihaan Malhotra and Aaron Varghese took charge and did not give the Sri Lankan bowlers a chance to make a comeback.

Vihaan Malhotra scored unbeaten 61 runs in 45 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Aaron Varghese played a brilliant inning of 58 not out in 49 balls. For Sri Lanka, only Rasith Nimsara was successful in taking two wickets.

The overall result was that India won the match by 8 wickets with 12 balls remaining and entered the final of the Under-19 Asia Cup. Now India will face Pakistan in the title match on Sunday, 21 December.
