Srinivasan passes away
New Delhi. Famous Malayalam actor, screenwriter, director and producer Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday at the age of 69. He left behind a unique body of work that influenced the social and comic sensibilities of Malayalam cinema for more than four decades. As soon as this sad news came out, fans mourned and expressed condolences for the great actor.
Srinivasan was born on 6 April 1956 in Pattiyam near Thalassery in Kannur district, Kerala. He was considered one of the most influential voices of Malayalam cinema. He was known for presenting sharp social satire in simple stories. In his career he acted in more than 225 films and wrote many famous scripts. His writings include classic films like Odaruthammava Aalariam, Sammansullavarakku Samadhanam, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Nadodikkattu, Pattanapravesham, Varavelpu, Thalayana Mantram, Sandesham, Mithunam, Mazhayethum Munpe, Azhakiya Ravanan, Oru Maravathoor Kanavu, Udayananu Tharam, Katha Parayumpol and Njan Prakashan. His last film is considered to be one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.
His scripts were known for humor, political insight, and moral clarity. As a filmmaker, he scripted and directed ‘Vadakkunokkiyantram’ and ‘Chintavisthaya Shyamala’. Vadakkunokkiyantram won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film, while Chinthavisthaya Shyamala received the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Popular Film. Sreenivasan has received several awards in his career, including one National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards South and six Kerala State Film Awards. He won the Kerala State Film Awards for Best Screenplay for Sandesham and Mazhayethum Munpe. His collaborations with directors Priyadarshan, Sathyan Anthikad and Kamal played an important role in shaping the golden age of Malayalam comedy and social drama.
