Helpless father carried the dead body of 4 year old son in a bag, an incident that shames humanity came to light in Chaibasa, Jharkhand.

Chaibasa An incident happened with Dimba Chatomba, a resident of Bada Baljodo village of Noamundi block, which put humanity to shame. After the death of his son in Chaibasa Sadar Hospital, the father was forced to carry his son’s dead body in a bag with bloodshot eyes and take it home. With trembling hands and pain in his heart, Dimba Chatomba took his son’s body home without a hearse. He had only 100 rupees in his pocket. He bought a bag worth 20 rupees and left with his son’s body in his hand.

It is said that two days ago, Dimba’s only son suddenly fell ill. The family brought him to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital. The child stopped breathing on Friday afternoon. What happened after the son’s death exposed the insensitivity of the system. The hospital administration asked to take the body home, but neither an ambulance nor a hearse was found. Very poor Dimba Chatomba had neither resources nor money. There were 100 rupees in his pocket, out of which he bought a bag worth 20 rupees and kept the body of his beloved son in it. Paid the bus fare with the remaining money and traveled by bus with the dead body from Chaibasa to Noamundi. From there he reached his village Bada Baljodi on foot.

After the news came in the media, State Health Minister Irfan Ansari has ordered an investigation into this matter. Posting on his social media account As soon as this matter came to my notice, I took immediate cognizance. The process of action has been initiated against the concerned authority and a detailed and factual reply has been sought from the Civil Surgeon on this entire matter.
I want to make it clear that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in the health department. Strict action will be ensured against those found guilty.
But along with this, it is also a matter of serious concern that such negative and misleading news is being spread continuously in districts like Chaibasa and Palamu. Due to this, not only are efforts being made to damage the image of the government, but the morale of doctors and health workers working honestly is also being broken.
Doctors are already reluctant to go to remote areas like Chaibasa, and this kind of negative environment makes the situation more difficult. I appeal to the public and the media that if there are any shortcomings then they should be brought directly to our notice. There will be investigation, reform will be done and action will also be taken against the culprits. But it is not appropriate to tarnish the image of any doctor or the entire department through a media trial without a thorough investigation.
Besides, it is also a matter of investigation whether some organized political and ideological forces are deliberately trying to tarnish the image of the government and the health department. Such conspiracies will not be tolerated.
Our government is working with full commitment for the health, respect and improvement of the public system. The truth will come out and justice will be done – I assure you.
