New Delhi. Congress leader Alka Lamba is now going to be in trouble. Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has framed charges against Alka in the case of attack on police during the demonstration at Jantar Mantar in 2024. The court has also rejected the Congress leader’s application to end the proceedings. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar said that prima facie Alka Lamba is accused of obstructing the work of government officials, attacking government employees and disobeying legal orders. An FIR was lodged against Alka Lamba at Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi.

On July 29, 2024, there was a protest at Jantar Mantar in support of women’s reservation in which Alka Lamba clashed with the police. Videos during the protest were presented in the court by Delhi Police. The court observed that in these video footage, Alka Lamba is seen instigating the protesters and pushing the police officers. Apart from this, Alka is also seen jumping the barricade. On the basis of these videos, the court has framed charges against Alka Lamba. In the court, in defense of Alka Lamba, her lawyer argued that the demonstration was completely peaceful and it was done in the same area where gathering for protest is allowed.

Alka’s lawyer also said that there is no independent witness against Alka nor is there any medical report of any policeman’s injury, but on the basis of video footage, the court found that Alka tried to gherao the Parliament by jumping the barricade and taking other protesters beyond the fixed place of protest. According to Delhi Police, despite repeated refusal, Alka did not agree and instead clashed with the policemen.
