Team India announced for T20 World Cup, Gill OUT, surprise entry of Kishan-Rinku

The selectors of the Indian team have taken a big decision for the T20 World Cup 2026. Vice-captain Shubman Gill, who is struggling with poor form, has been dropped from the World Cup team. Akshar Patel has been made the vice-captain in his place. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma has also not been selected. Rinku Singh and Ishaan Kishan have entered in place of Gill and Jitesh.

Rinku is the backup middle order batsman, while Kishan has been kept as the second wicketkeeper. Kishan will also be in the role of backup opener. The command of the 15-member squad is in the hands of Suryakumar Yadav.

Ishan Kishan got SMAT award

Ishan Kishan had a tremendous performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025. Left-handed batsman Kishan had won the trophy for Jharkhand by scoring the most runs (517) in the tournament. While playing the captaincy innings in the final, he scored a quick 101 runs, after which his chances of being selected in the T20 World Cup team became stronger. However, very few people expected that he would be selected, because there were already 3-3 openers in the team. Jitesh Sharma along with Sanju Samson were contenders in the wicketkeeping department.
