PM Modi’s gift to Assam: Inaugurated the new terminal building of the international airport in Guwahati.
Guwahati, 20 December. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building of the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Assam capital Guwahati. This new terminal has been built at a cost of around Rs 4,000 crore and is being touted as the country’s first nature-themed airport terminal.
Adani Airports Holdings Limited has constructed
Officials said that the aim is to make this airport a major aviation hub for Northeast India. Along with this, it is being developed as an important gateway from India to South-East Asia. This new terminal has been constructed by Adani Airports Holdings Limited. The terminal’s design uses patterns inspired by bamboo and orchids, reflecting the culture and nature of Assam and the North-Eastern region.
Country’s first terminal made of 140 metric tons bamboo
The specialty of this new terminal building is that it is the first terminal in the country made of 140 metric tons of bamboo. PM Modi also inspected the terminal building after the inauguration. This airport is named after the first Chief Minister of Assam, Gopinath Bordoloi. PM Modi also unveiled his 80-feet tall statue outside the airport.

PM Modi also shared a glimpse of the new terminal on Friday ahead of his visit to Assam. He called it a big step for the infrastructure of Assam. PM Modi wrote on social media platform X that the increased capacity of the terminal will improve the living standards of the people and will also boost trade and tourism.

The cost of North East India’s largest airport terminal is Rs 5 thousand crores.
With the opening of the new terminal, it is expected to provide facility to more than 1.3 crore passengers every year. With this it will become the largest airport terminal in Northeast India. According to officials, the total cost of this entire project is around Rs 5,000 crore. Of this, about Rs 1,000 crore has been earmarked for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities at the airport.
Officials said that there was good coordination between both the Central Government and the State Government in completing this entire project. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had already sanctioned Rs 116.2 crore for widening of the roads leading to the terminal. Along with this, he also reviewed the facilities related to the airport.
