PM’s helicopter could not land in Tahepur due to dense fog, Prime Minister Modi addressed the public meeting through virtual medium

An unusual situation arose on Saturday (20 December 2025) in Tahepur in Nadia district of West Bengal, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s helicopter could not land at the designated spot due to dense fog and very low visibility. Keeping safety standards in mind, the pilot decided to take the helicopter back to Kolkata Airport. However, despite the hindrance of weather, the Prime Minister did not cancel the program and addressed the public meeting organized at Netaji Park in Tahepur through virtual medium.

According to the information, Prime Minister Modi reached Kolkata at around 10:40 am, from where he had to go to Tahepur in Nadia district by helicopter. His administrative program was scheduled at Tahepur, which included the inauguration and foundation stone laying of several national highway projects in West Bengal. After this, the program to address the political rally ‘Parivartan Sankalp Sabha’ of Bharatiya Janata Party was fixed.

When the Prime Minister’s helicopter reached Tahepur helipad, there was dense fog. Visibility was so low that a safe landing was not possible. The helicopter kept hovering over the helipad for some time, but as the conditions were not favourable, the pilot took a U-turn and decided to take the helicopter back to Kolkata Airport. According to officials, this decision was taken completely as per security protocol.

After returning to Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not let the thousands of people present in Tahepur get disappointed and addressed the rally through video conferencing. At the beginning of his address, the Prime Minister apologized to the public and said, “I regret that due to bad weather I could not reach you in Nadia, Bengal.” He said that no compromise can be made with weather and safety, but communication with the public will continue under all circumstances.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi also spoke openly on political issues. Referring to the recently held Bihar Assembly elections, he said that the people of Bihar have given a huge mandate to the NDA. The Prime Minister said, “Bihar has rejected Jungle Raj. Ganga flows from Bihar to Bengal and now the time has come that the people of West Bengal should also get freedom from the ‘Maha-Jungle Raj’ prevailing here.” The supporters present at the rally venue reacted strongly to his statement.

In his address, the Prime Minister also mentioned the development, law and order and schemes of the Central Government of West Bengal. He said that the Central Government is committed to the development of the state and in the times to come, West Bengal will be taken to new heights in the field of infrastructure and employment. The Prime Minister also called upon the public to unite for change in the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, a huge crowd gathered at the rally venue organized at Netaji Park in Tahepur. More people reached the venue than the capacity, which created an atmosphere of chaos for some time. It was reported that the crowd, losing patience, tried to break the VIP entrance and also tried to remove the barricades put up by the security forces. The district police and administration had to work hard to handle the situation.

According to police officials, additional force was deployed to control the crowd and people were appealed to maintain peace. The situation was soon brought under control and no major untoward incident was reported. The administration clarified that the security of the Prime Minister is the top priority and hence all necessary steps were taken.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Modi’s schedule on Saturday was quite busy. After West Bengal, he was to leave for Guwahati, Assam, where he is going to participate in many programs on a two-day tour. Despite the hindrance of weather, no major changes were made in his program and communication with the public was ensured through digital medium.

Overall, bad weather and dense fog in Tahepur definitely hindered the Prime Minister’s visit, but with the help of technology he conveyed his message to the public. This incident once again shows that in the modern era, even weather or geographical barriers cannot completely stop mass communication. The Prime Minister’s virtual address not only became an example of vigilance towards security, but also showed how new mediums of political communication are proving effective.
