22 December in the pages of history: Celebrated on the birth anniversary of Indian great mathematician Ramanujan.
every year in india National Mathematics Day is celebrated on 22 December. This day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Ramanujan was born on 22 December 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu. In order to honor his extraordinary contribution in the field of mathematics and to increase interest in mathematics among the youth, the Government of India declared this day as National Mathematics Day in the year 2012.
Srinivasa Ramanujan is known for his seminal works in number theory, infinite categories, continued fractions, and mathematical analysis. Without any formal training, he gave such mathematical formulas and principles, which are still appreciated by mathematicians all over the world. Many of his theories have also proven useful in modern mathematics, computer science and physics.
On the occasion of National Mathematics Day, mathematics related seminars, quizzes, workshops and competitions are organized in schools, colleges and universities across the country. Its main objective is to make students aware of the importance of mathematics and to convey the message that mathematics is not just a game of numbers but is the basis of life and science.
