Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Sunday and inspect it tomorrow. Spread over approximately 14 lakh square metres, the new terminal building is capable of handling 13 lakh passengers per year. The design of the new terminal building is inspired by the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Assam and has the theme “Bamboo Gardens”.

Prime Minister Modi shared some spectacular pictures of the newly constructed terminal on social media. This inauguration will bring a significant change in Assam’s connectivity, economic expansion and global engagement.

The newly constructed integrated new terminal building, spread over approximately 1.4 lakh square metres, is designed to handle 1.3 crore passengers per annum, supported by major upgrades made to the runway, airfield system, apron and taxiways.

India’s first nature-themed airport terminal is inspired by the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Assam, with the theme “Bamboo Gardens”. The terminal makes unprecedented use of approximately 140 metric tonnes of bamboo sourced from the Northeast, complemented by 57 garden-themed pillars reflecting the lush green landscape inspired by Kaziranga, Japi motifs, the iconic rhinoceros symbol and the Kopo flower. A unique “Sky Forest”, which houses around one lakh local species of plants, provides a jungle-like experience to the visiting travelers.

The terminal sets new standards in passenger convenience and digital innovation. Features like full-body scanner for fast and seamless security checks, Digiatra-enabled contactless travel, automated baggage management, expedited immigration and AI-powered airport operations ensure a seamless, safe and efficient journey.
