Noida, 20 December. In view of the serious situation of air pollution, Noida Police and Traffic Police have adopted a strict stance as soon as the Graded Response Action Plan (Grape-4) was implemented. For the last three days, a special campaign is being run on the Noida-Delhi border, under which BS-4 category vehicles are not being allowed to enter Delhi and are being returned back. Along with this, challan action is being taken on a large scale against polluting vehicles.
Gautam Buddha Nagar DCP Traffic Dr Praveen Ranjan Singh said that under the rules of Group 4, till now challan has been issued to 784 vehicles for not having PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate. At the same time, action has also been taken against 61 vehicles having visible pollution, from which smoke was clearly emanating. These were mostly vehicles carrying construction materials and other goods.
Apart from this, challan has also been issued against 216 goods vehicles violating the rules. According to DCP Traffic, action has also been taken against 1050 vehicles falling in BS-4 category and 880 petrol-powered vehicles falling in BS-3 category.
Along with this, a large number of vehicles also came to light which had unknowingly reached the border, but were not allowed to enter Delhi. About 3,500 such vehicles were stopped on the spot and returned. During this three-day special campaign conducted by the police administration, a total of challans worth Rs 2 crore 99 lakh 30 thousand have been issued so far.
DCP Traffic Praveen Ranjan Singh said that police forces and traffic police personnel have been deployed 24 hours 7 days on all three major borders of Noida and Delhi, so that the rules can be strictly followed. Apart from this, keeping in mind the continuously increasing fog and decreasing visibility, the speed limit of vehicles has also been controlled on Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway.
This speed limit is also being shown on Google Map, so that drivers can get information in advance. On the Yamuna Expressway, if the visibility falls below 50 metres, vehicles are being stopped and allowed to move slowly in a group. Police administration says that all these steps are being taken keeping in mind public safety and pollution control.
