Home Ministry’s New Year gift to firefighters, 50 percent quota fixed in BSF
New Delhi: Before the New Year, the government has given a big gift to the former firefighters. Now 50 percent seats will be reserved for former firefighters in constable level recruitment in BSF (Border Security Force). This is a five-fold increase in the earlier 10 percent quota and is being considered as a big relief for the fire fighters. This step will provide security to 75 percent of the firefighters who were feeling uncertain about their future after being out of service. From time to time, controversies and political debates have also arisen regarding this matter.
50 percent quota in BSF
According to the notification of the Home Ministry, 50 percent quota has been reserved for former firefighters in constable level recruitment in BSF. This amendment has been made in the BSF General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules, 2015. It was told in the notification that candidates between 18 to 23 years of age can apply for these posts. Also, the upper age limit will be relaxed by five years for the first batch of former Agniveer candidates and three years for subsequent batches.
Seat Reservation Details
- 50% seats will be reserved for former firefighters.
- 10% seats will be kept for ex-servicemen.
- 3% seats will be earmarked for tradesmen.
- The remaining 47% seats will be recruited by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
Ex-fire warriors will be exempted from the physical standard test and physical efficiency test. Additionally, the candidate must have passed 10th from a recognized board, or equivalent military qualification in case of ex-servicemen.
What is Agniveer Yojana?
Agniveer Yojana was launched to bring youth into service for four years in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Central Government launched the Agneepath Scheme on June 14, 2022, and the recruitment process started from January 2023. Under this scheme, candidates aged 17.5 to 25 years are recruited into the army as Agniveer. After four years of service, 25% can be retained for 15 years, while the remaining 75% is released from service.
This step of the Home Ministry is important because the first batch of Agniveer will be out of the army by January or December 2027. 50 percent reservation in BSF will provide them a safe and permanent path to new opportunities in the central police forces. It is expected that such quota system will soon be implemented in other central police forces also.
future direction
This quota is a big opportunity for employment and security for former firefighters. Apart from this, this scheme gives assurance of employment and social security to the young personnel coming out of the army. The aim of the government is that the youth associated with Agniveer Yojana should get strength and employment opportunity to face new challenges after military experience.
