Fans cheer, Australia retain Ashes with 3-0 lead at Adelaide Oval. Read
Australia by Retained the Ashes by defeating England by 82 runs in the third test And took an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The win capped off a strong performance for the hosts, who finished the tie on the final day despite determined resistance from England’s lower order.
Chasing a mammoth target of 435, England were all out for 352, falling just short despite raising some hope of extending the match further into the afternoon. The result sparked celebration among the home team and underlined Australia’s dominance in the series.
England fight back but fall short on final day in Adelaide
England started Day 5 with modest expectations and responded with admirable courage. Jamie Smith, Will Jacks and Brydon Carse added vital runs, keeping Australia waiting, frustrating the bowlers with disciplined defense and timely counterattacks.
However, the task remained difficult against a sustained Australian attack. As England tried to reduce the gap, wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing any real final surge. Ultimately, the pace ran out in the chase, ending England’s hopes of saving the Test.
Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland completed the job for Australia
Australia’s bowlers maintained their composure on the last day. Mitchell Starc took three wickets, using pace and angle to break up important partnerships, while Scott Boland struck the final blow to end England’s resistance and seal the match.
A disciplined bowling effort ensured Australia maintained control despite a stubborn display from England, capping a win that reflected their superiority over all five days in Adelaide.
The foundation of Australia’s victory was laid by a powerful batting performance in the second innings in the first Test. Travis Head’s brilliant 170 steadied the innings, while Alex Carey’s 72 provided vital middle-order support.
His contribution put Australia in a dominant position and set a challenging fourth innings target for England which proved out of reach. The pair’s efforts were central in shaping the match and putting sustained pressure on the visitors.
Australia retained the Ashes in just 11 days
Adelaide’s win followed eight-wicket wins in Perth and Brisbane, meaning Australia retained the Ashes in just 11 days β the fastest series win in almost a century.
With two Tests still to play, Australia have already secured the urn, highlighting the difference between the two teams in the first three matches.

Bazball is officially dead. England’s playing Tests like T20s, no control from players. It works against weak sides/bowling, but crumbles vs stronger squads. From 3rd Test, they switched to normal if they’d done it in start, series might’ve turned out different. #Ashes #AUSvENG

We can laugh at Bazball all we like, but chasing 435 in Adelaide and finishing 352 all out is not nothing. England were 82 runs short of a miracle Ashes chase. Give those batters a bit more game awareness and this exact style was close to stealing it. #Ashes #AUSvENG

I just remembered Starc was on two warnings for running on the pitch and another one would have seen him banned from bowling for the rest of the innings. Just as well that didnβt happen as he took 3 wickets today and we would have been 2 bowlers down. #ausveng #Ashes
