Team India has changed so much in one and a half year, T20 World Cup ticket to 7 new players
New Delhi. The Indian team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was announced on 20 December (Saturday). In the press conference held in Mumbai, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia announced the 15-member team. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agkar were also present in the press conference. The upcoming T20 World Cup is to be played jointly between India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 20 March.
If seen, the Indian team will look quite changed in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the context of T20 World Cup 2024. This change has happened in about 18 months. A total of 7 Indian players, who were part of the winning team in the 2024 T20 World Cup co-hosted by the United States and West Indies, will not be a part of the upcoming World Cup.
Veteran players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from T20 International. In such a situation, naturally he is not a part of the upcoming World Cup. Whereas fast bowler Mohammad Siraj, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have not got a place in the team for the next T20 World Cup.
There are a total of 8 players who were part of the T20 World Cup squad last time also. These include captain Suryakumar Yadav, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, spinner Kuldeep Yadav, Khabbu fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, apart from all-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey and Akshar Patel.
There are 7 players who were not a part of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024, but will be a part of the upcoming World Cup. These include spinner Varun Chakraborty, wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan, opener Abhishek Sharma, fast bowler Harshit Rana, finisher Rinku Singh, middle order batsman Tilak Verma and all-rounder Washington Sundar. While Ishaan has returned to the Indian team after almost 2 years, Rinku has returned to the T20 setup.
Let us tell you that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India won the T20 World Cup on 29 June 2024. Then the coach of the team was Rahul Dravid. Also, Hardik Pandya took over the responsibility of vice-captaincy. The coaching department of Team India has also changed in these 18 months. Now Gautam Gambhir is playing the role of head coach.
