Indian railways increase train fare from 26 December 2025 know how much you have to pay to buy ticket

New Delhi. Train fares are going to increase again. If you buy a train ticket on 26th December 2025 and after, you will have to pay a higher price. Railways said on Sunday that it has not increased the ticket price for rail journeys of less than 215 kilometers. At the same time, it has been decided to increase the fare on normal tickets by 1 paise per kilometer for journeys of more than 215 kilometers. Apart from this, Railways has increased the fare by 2 paise per kilometer for Mail, Express, AC and non-AC sleeper and sitting. If a passenger travels 500 kilometers in non-AC, he will have to pay Rs 10 more fare from December 26.

Railways has increased train fares for the second time this year. Earlier, Railways had increased the fares of trains from July 1, 2025. Even at that time the Railways had increased the fare by the same amount. Railways had increased the fares of mail and express trains by 1 paisa per kilometer in July. At the same time, Railways had increased the fare of AC coaches by 2 paise per kilometer. Now, after the decision to increase train fares from December 26, Railways has said that it is going to earn more by Rs 600 crore. However, the decision to increase railway fares is likely to heat up politics.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has already told that Railways gives huge subsidy on the tickets of passengers. This percentage is about 46 percent of the cost of railway tickets. That means if someone buys a train ticket worth Rs 100, he pays only Rs 54 to the Railways. Subsidy of about Rs 56000 crore is given annually on railway tickets. This facilitates common people to travel long distances in less money. Railways runs more than 13000 trains every day. On an average, 2.4 crore people travel through railways every day. Indian Railways is one of the largest rail networks in the world.
