Increase of 2 paise per km for AC class
Indian Railways is going to change the fares from 26th December 2025, it has also announced for this. In this, fares have not been increased for train journeys of less than 215 km in ordinary class. At the same time, for journeys more than 215 km, there has been an increase of 1 paise per km in the ordinary class. There has been an increase of Rs 2 per km for Mail or Express non-AC and AC classes.
The burden on railways increased with time
The manpower expenditure of Indian Railways has increased to Rs 1.15 lakh crore. The pension burden has also reached Rs 60 thousand crores. If we talk about the year 2024-25, the total cost of operation of railways has crossed Rs 2.63 lakh crore. Railways has to find new sources to manage expenses and improve security arrangements. While Railways is promoting cargo loading to increase the source of income, passenger fares have been increased.
