New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu assent to the Developed India-Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Guarantee Bill, 2025 (VB-G Ram Ji). With the approval of the President this bill became law. Earlier, both houses of the Parliament have passed this bill. Now a major change has been implemented in the rural employment system. According to the Union Rural Development Ministry, this Act will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 and is designed in line with the vision of Developed India 2047. The Government aims to strengthen income security and create durable and productive assets in rural areas, thereby promoting inclusive and balanced growth.
Under the provisions of the law, it will be the statutory responsibility of the government to provide minimum 125 days of employment to willing rural families. It has been made mandatory to pay wages weekly or within a maximum of 15 days. A provision has also been made to provide compensation for delay if payment is not made within the stipulated time.
