The ongoing controversy regarding the film ‘Dhurandhar’ has once again come into discussion. This film, released on December 5, has reached close to Rs 800 crore worldwide. Despite the strong performance at the box office, the film had already sparked debate due to a negative review by film critic Anupama Chopra. Now meanwhile, after director Mohit Suri praised the film on a public platform, there has been a flood of new reactions on social media.
Shortly after its release, Anupama Chopra gave a critical review of ‘Dhurandhar’, calling it an “exhausting, relentlessly fast-paced spy thriller” and adding that the film is filled with “excessive testosterone, strident nationalism and an inflammatory anti-Pakistan narrative”. There was a huge protest on social media regarding this review, in which many people including actor Paresh Rawal reacted. After this Anupama Chopra removed this review video from YouTube.
In this background, a video of The Hollywood Reporter India Directors’ Roundtable has surfaced, in which Mohit Suri was involved along with other filmmakers. Anupama Chopra herself was hosting this roundtable. During the conversation, when Anupama asked the filmmakers which film they watched in the theater recently, Mohit Suri took the name of ‘Dhurandhar’ without any hesitation.
Mohit Suri said, “I watched Dhurandhar last week. I liked it. Really. I think it’s a good film. It’s very good; I liked it.” After her statement, social media users carefully watched the video clip of the program and claimed that during this, an uncomfortable smile was seen on Anupama Chopra’s face.

After this a series of reactions started on social media. One user wrote, “Mohit Suri man… Take a bow.” While another commented, “Wow, what an expression Chopra had when Dhurandhar was praised.” Another user sarcastically wrote, “Mohit Suri will never get an invitation to Anupama’s show again.” Another comment said, “When Mohit said #Dhurandhar, his face froze, he had nothing to say.”
At present, Anupama Chopra has neither given any official response regarding the removal of her review nor on this viral video. On the other hand, capitalizing on the success of ‘Dhurandhar’, the makers have also announced its sequel. The next part of the film titled ‘Dhurandhar 2 – Revenge’ will be released in theaters on March 19, 2026.
The story of ‘Dhurandhar’ is said to be inspired by real incidents and crime syndicates operating in the Lyari area of Karachi.
