Salman Khan’s 2009 film Wanted is the Hindi version of the Telugu hit Pokiri. This film proved to be an important milestone in Salman’s career. It was directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Boney Kapoor. Ayesha Takia was also with Salman in this film. Recently Boney Kapoor revealed how he came up with the idea of casting Salman in this film.
The character of Radhe is suitable for Salman Khan
While talking to the media, Boney Kapoor told that he had watched the 2006 Telugu film Pokiri, which was directed by Puri Jagannadh. After watching the film, he felt that the character of Radhe would fit Salman perfectly. Talking to Rediff, he said that after watching Pokiri, he wanted to cast Salman in Wanted, but Salman could not watch the film due to his busy schedule.
Why did Katrina Kaif’s name come up?
Boney Kapoor had Ayesha Takia’s name in mind for the female lead in Wanted. But he told that Salman had suggested Katrina Kaif’s name for this role. However, Boney Kapoor felt that the choice of Katrina would not be right according to the story, as the heroine’s role in the film is confused with Radhe.
Genelia D’Souza’s name was also in discussion
Boney Kapoor also told that he thought of casting an actress with Salman who had not worked with him before. Genelia D’Souza’s name also came up for discussion in the process, but ultimately Ayesha Takia was finalised.
The film did wonders in earning
Salman Khan’s Wanted earned Rs 81 crore at the Indian box office and did a business of Rs 87 crore globally. The budget of this film was only Rs 35 crores and it was highly appreciated by the audience and critics.
