Modi’s sharp comments on SIR, Kharge calls BJP ‘disastrous’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress over the Special Intensive Amendment Bill (SIR) and accused the party of indulging in ‘anti-national’ activities and helping settle illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam.
PM Modi’s attack on Congress
Modi made this comment while addressing a gathering during the inauguration ceremony of a fertilizer plant costing Rs 10,601 crore at Namrup in Dibrugarh district of Assam. He said that Congress is opposing SIR only with the aim of gaining power. The Prime Minister claimed, ‘Congress is involved in anti-national activities. Their aim is to settle illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the lands and forests of Assam and only to strengthen their vote bank. He is not concerned about the general public.
Modi further said that Congress opposes every good effort of his. Taking aim at the opposition, he said that Congress is opposing the amendment in the voter list only because it wants to grab power. The BJP government will always work to protect the identity, land, pride and existence of the Assamese people.
The Prime Minister assured the public in the meeting before the assembly elections that we have to save Assam from the poison of appeasement policy and vote bank politics of Congress. BJP will always stand like a shield to protect the identity and honor of Assam.
What did Mallikarjun Kharge say?
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hit back at Modi’s statement and described BJP as ‘destructive’. He said there are BJP governments both at the Center and in Assam, but how can the opposition parties be blamed if they fail to provide security? When the government fails, it is not right to put the blame on the opposition.
Kharge stressed that Congress works in the interest of the country and the people and does not support terrorists or infiltrators. He said that BJP is blaming only because it has failed in security and migration control. His statement that we are not destroyers is wrong.
In this way, a heated political debate came to light between the Prime Minister and the Opposition on the issue of SIR and illegal immigrants in Assam, which is adding more heat to the politics of the state before the assembly elections.
