India Women vs Sri Lanka Women: On 21 December, the first match of the Women’s T-20 series was played between India and Sri Lanka. The Indian team performed brilliantly in the first match and defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The dominance of Indian bowlers was clearly visible in this victory. They prevented Sri Lanka from scoring big and then the batsmen completed the target with ease.

Sri Lanka’s batting remained weak

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 121/6 runs in 20 overs. Opener Vishmi Gunaratne scored 39 runs in 43 balls, while Chamari Atapattu scored 15 runs in 12 balls. The team got the initial shock early and the middle order could not handle it. Hasini Perera scored 20 runs in 23 balls and Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 21 runs in 23 balls. Apart from this, Nilakshika Silva added 8 runs and Kavisha Dilhari added 6 runs.

India achieved the target easily

Chasing the target of 122 runs, India got off to a slow start. Shefali Verma was out after scoring 9 runs in 5 balls. After this Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues took over the team. Both made a half-century partnership. Mandhana scored 25 runs in 25 balls, while Jemimah played an unbeaten inning of 69 runs in 44 balls. He hit 10 fours and India won the match by scoring 122/2 in 14.4 overs.

Great performance by Indian bowlers

Indian bowlers performed impressively in the match. Kranti Gaur, Deepti Sharma and Shri Charani took 1 wicket each. Apart from this, three Sri Lankan batsmen were run out. In this way, Indian bowling kept the team on the path to victory.

For Sri Lanka, Kavya Kavindi and Inoka Ramaweera took 1-1 wicket. However, their efforts were not enough and India won the match comfortably. The Indian women’s team performed impressively in the first match. The batsmen took up the responsibility after stopping Sri Lanka from bowling. Jemimah Rodrigues’ brilliant unbeaten innings and middle-order partnership were decisive for India. With this win, India has taken the lead in the series and is expected to maintain its dominance in the next matches also.
