Strong start by World Champion India, explosive victory in the first T20 against Sri Lanka

The Indian women’s cricket team, which recently created a new history by winning the 50-over World Cup title, has continued its strong start in T20 international cricket as well. In the first match of the five-match T20 series being played against Sri Lanka women’s team, India performed strongly and registered an easy victory.

Smriti Mandhana achieved a big achievement

Along with the victory in this match, star batsman Smriti Mandhana also achieved another big achievement in her career. As soon as Smriti Mandhana completed 18 runs in this match against Sri Lanka, she made a special record. She became the first Indian player to complete 4000 runs in Women’s T20 International cricket. Not only this, she is the second female batsman in the world to achieve this position. Before her, this feat was done by veteran New Zealand player Suzie Bates. Mandhana achieved this feat in the 155th T20 International match of her career, which shows her consistency and excellent form.

In this match played at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Indian bowlers proved the captain’s decision right and maintained constant pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen. Sri Lankan team could score only 121 runs after losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. For India, Kranti Gaur, Deepti Sharma and Sricharani took one wicket each, while three batsmen were run out during fielding, further restricting Sri Lanka’s run rate.

Indian team’s aggressive attitude

The Indian team, which set out to chase the target, adopted an aggressive stance from the very beginning. Although Smriti Mandhana was out after scoring 25 runs and Shefali Verma was out after scoring 9 runs, but Jemimah Rodrigues kept one end in check. He batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 69 runs in 44 balls and took the team to the threshold of victory. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also remained unbeaten after scoring 15 runs.

India achieved the target of 122 runs in just 14.4 overs and won the match. With this victory, Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second match of the series will be played on the same ground on Tuesday, where the Indian team will aim to maintain its momentum.
