Team India won U19 Asia Cup Runners-Up medal not from Mohsin Naqvi, but from this ICC official
U19 Asia Cup, India vs Pakistan: India broke the record and missed out on winning the ninth title of Under-19 Asia Cup. On Sunday, it faced a crushing defeat from Pakistan in the final played at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. While chasing the target of 348 runs, when India lost its first five wickets for just 68 runs, the signs of defeat were clearly visible. Ultimately the team was all out for 156 runs and lost the match by 191 runs. Asian Cricket Council President and Pakistan Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi was present during the match and also at the prize distribution ceremony, but interestingly, he did not give India the runner-up medal.
Mubashir Usmani gave medals to Indian players
Instead of Mohsin Naqvi, International Cricket Council Associate Member Director Mubashir Usmani presented India’s runners-up medal. Indian players also did not go to the stage where Naqvi was standing. He received his medals at a spot on the field just before the podium. The Indian senior men’s cricket team had refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi after winning the Asia Cup title by defeating Pakistan in the final in Dubai earlier this year. As a result, the ACC President did not give the trophy to India and was later seen taking the trophy with him.
Even the senior team did not take the trophy from Naqvi
As a minister of Pakistan, Naqvi was quite active in the military conflict between the two countries in May this year. Not only this, during the matches played in the Asia Cup, the Indian team had also avoided shaking hands with the players of the Pakistani team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also followed the same ‘no handshake policy’ in the matches between the two countries in the Under-19 Asia Cup. The Indian women’s team also made its message clear by not shaking hands with Pakistani players in multinational competitions. Both countries do not even play bilateral series with each other.
Tension in India-Pakistan at its peak after Pahalgam terrorist attack
The hostility between the two neighboring countries is at its peak after the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 Indian tourists were shot dead by Pakistan-backed terrorists. After this, India started military action under ‘Operation Vermillion’ to destroy the terrorist infrastructure across the border and neutralized many terrorists. Later, war started between the two countries and the Indian Army gave a befitting reply to the Pakistani Army. After several days of conflict, Pakistan came down on its knees and started demanding ceasefire. Now ceasefire is in force.
