Know about that film of his which put the tag of ‘flop’ on his career! ,
Whenever it comes to dance, comedy and amazing acting in Hindi cinema, the first name that comes to mind is Govinda. Govinda dominated the box office in the 80s and 90s. His films ran for months in theaters and earned him the title of ‘Hero No. 1’. But there comes a turning point in the career of every big star, which brings him from the throne to the floor. Today (21st December), on the occasion of Govinda’s 62nd birthday, we are discussing the same film of his which had put the tag of ‘MahaDisaster’ on his career.
That film which came out 6 years ago, surprised everyone
In the year 2019, a film of Govinda was released, whose name was ‘Rangeela Raja’. Fans were hoping that Govinda would bring back his old charm through this film, but the result was completely opposite. Many viewers did not even know when the film came to theaters and when it was released.
This film was directed and produced by Govinda’s old friend Pahlaj Nihalani. Nihalani is the same person who gave Govinda a superhit film like ‘Ilzaam’ at the beginning of his career. But with ‘Rangeela Raja’ this pairing completely failed to impress.
Budget 19 crores and earning only 18 lakhs!
The figures of the film ‘Rangeela Raja’ can trouble anyone. An estimated Rs 19 crore was spent on the production and promotion of the film. But when the film made a splash at the box office, it broke all the shameful earning records.
Gross Income: The film had collected only Rs 18-19 lakh as lifetime collection.
failure rate: The film could not recover even 1 percent of its budget.
IMDB Rating: The popularity of the film can be gauged from the fact that it got less than 2 ratings on IMDb.
Why did this film flop so badly?
Govinda played a double role in the film, but there was no innovation in the story. The film’s dialogue, music and direction were described by critics as ‘old-fashioned’. Along with Govinda, this film also had actors like Shakti Kapoor, Mishika Chaurasia and Digang K Suryavanshi, but no one could add to the tone of the film.
Critics felt that Govinda was serving 90s comedy to the 2019 audience, which was completely rejected by today’s generation.
Govinda took a break after the film
This crushing defeat of ‘Rangeela Raja’ had a deep impact on Govinda. After the film flopped at the box office, Govinda did not work in any other big film. He gradually distanced himself from the glare of the film industry. Although he remains connected with his fans through reality shows and social media, his return to the big screen is still awaited.
Despite being a flop, still ‘number 1’
Even though ‘Rangeela Raja’ proved to be the darkest stain in Govinda’s career, it does not diminish his legacy. Films like ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’, ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’, ‘Dulhe Raja’ and ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ have made him immortal. Today on his birthday, fans are praying that he returns once again with a strong script.
