A massive outbreak of smog and pollution in Delhi, 129 flights cancelled.
New Delhi 20 December 2025: Double whammy of smog and pollution With the onset of winter, Delhi is once again surrounded by thick smog and dangerous pollution. Visibility reduced to zero in many areas this morning, due to which road and air traffic got disrupted. The biggest impact of this weather disaster has been on Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
Giving priority to the safety of passengers, the airport management has canceled 66 arrival and 63 departure flights today. A total of 129 flights have been cancelled, due to which the travel plans of thousands of passengers have been ruined. Many flights are being diverted or delayed.
According to the Meteorological Department, thick smog is expected for the next few days. Travelers are requested to check their flight status and travel only when absolutely necessary.
The air pollution situation in the national capital Delhi remained serious in the morning. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and IMD, the air quality index (AQI) was recorded above 300 in almost all areas of the capital, which falls directly in the ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ category.
The situation was worst in areas like Vivek Vihar (435), Anand Vihar (434) and ITO (437) of East Delhi. Meanwhile, the air quality in Rohini (421), Wazirpur (424), Jahangirpuri (428) and Punjabi Bagh (417) in North and West Delhi is also not breathable.
Very low visibility due to smog in Delhi
Visibility was very low in Delhi till 10 am. The minimum recorded in Safdarjung was only 200 metres, whereas in Palam area it was 350 metres. Low visibility is likely to affect road, rail and air traffic, so people are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
