Successful completion of Divya Kala Mela 2025: Disability and equal opportunities

New Delhi – Disability requires not only sympathy, but equal opportunity and respect. Keeping this idea in mind, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India successfully concluded the 9 day ‘Divya Kala Mela’ at Dutta Path, India Gate. The event ran from 13 to 21 December 2025 and conveyed the message that persons with disabilities are not just beneficiaries but active participants in the country’s self-reliant economy.

The journey of ‘Divya Kala Mela’, which started from this path of duty in December 2022, has now reached the 28th stop. The event has so far engaged more than 2362 disabled artisans and entrepreneurs through 28 fairs across the country, generating a total business of over Rs 23 crore. Around 100 disabled participants from 20 states showcased their products and skills in this fair organized in Delhi. The demand for home decor, organic food and handicraft products led to sales of over Rs 2 crore, indicating the growing confidence in Divyang entrepreneurship.
During the fair, a special employment fair was organized on 16 December, in which 157 disabled youth participated. Of these, 99 youth were shortlisted and some got job offers from reputed companies on the spot. Taking this process of economic empowerment forward, National Disability Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) sanctioned loans worth more than Rs 1 crore 5 lakh to entrepreneurs with disabilities. Additionally, ALIMCO worked to increase the functionality of the disabled by distributing assistive devices.
‘Divya Kala Shakti’ program in the closing ceremony gave a new height to the event. Disabled artists from Delhi-NCR proved through dance and music performances that talent is not dependent on any physical limitation. The ‘Experience Zone’ set up at the fair and disability games like blind cricket and boccia provided an opportunity to the visitors to understand the challenges and capabilities of persons with disabilities.
Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and NDFDC expressed gratitude for the cooperation of citizens of Delhi, local administration and line of duty officials. He said that in the future also, continuous efforts will be made towards building an inclusive and respectful society for the disabled through such events in different parts of the country.
