After this, senior Congress leader and Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Shashi Tharoor has warned about Bangladesh.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said that the mob is dominating in Bangladesh. This mobocracy is not only a threat to the democratic process of Bangladesh but is also a serious threat to the entire region including India. Shashi Tharoor has said in the statement that the attack on press freedom in Bangladesh is a direct attack on democracy. Tharoor said that mobocracy cannot be allowed to dominate under any circumstances. Shashi Tharoor has demanded from the interim government of Bangladesh to provide security to diplomatic missions there. Also provide additional security to the targeted embassies and consulates. Shashi Tharoor described violence and intolerance in Bangladesh as inauspicious for democracy. According to the Congress MP, if Bangladesh wants to come out of the transition period democratically, then there should be constructive dialogue instead of mobocracy.

Shashi Tharoor has asked Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Executive Government of Bangladesh, to come forward and lead for constructive dialogue. Tharoor has said that the stability of Bangladesh is important for the entire South Asia. He said that India wants a stable, prosperous and peaceful neighbourhood. Instability in Bangladesh has a direct impact on India’s security, border management and economic interests. Tharoor said Bangladesh should take three major steps. He should provide complete security to journalists and media. India’s diplomatic mission must be protected and concrete steps must be taken to restore peace. Parliament elections are to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February. Sheikh Hasina’s government was overthrown there on 5 August 2024.
