Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said here today that the Punjab Government has taken a historic decision by issuing notification granting the status of holy cities to three cities of religious importance for Sikhs. He described this moment as an opportunity of gratitude, humility and responsibility towards God for the state.
Addressing the people of Punjab in a video message, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that dear Punjabis, your own Punjab government has taken a historic decision by issuing a notification granting the status of holy cities to cities of religious importance for Sikhs. He said the announcement was made from the holy land of Sri Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of state-level celebrations to commemorate the 350th ‘Shaheedi Diwas’ (martyrdom day) of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He said that I am grateful to God, who has given us the strength, power and ability to take such a historic decision.
Explaining the significance of the move, the Chief Minister said that out of the five Takht Sahibans of the Sikhs, three Takhts are located in Punjab, including Sri Akal Takht Sahib Amritsar, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Sri Anandpur Sahib and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo. He said that the three cities where these holy Takht Sahibans were established have now been officially given the status of centers of spirituality and holy cities.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government will ensure all necessary facilities for the devotees visiting these holy cities. He said that all necessary arrangements including providing e-rickshaws, mini-buses and other public transport services will be made in these cities of religious significance for Sikhs to ensure that the devotees and sangat coming from all over the world do not face any inconvenience.

The Chief Minister made it clear that now strict rules will be implemented in these holy cities. He assured that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the sanctity of these places and now there will be a complete ban on the sale of meat, liquor, tobacco and any intoxicant in these three cities.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, he said that I assure you with full responsibility that no stone will be left unturned to ensure overall and proper development of these cities. These cities are not only the center of spirituality but are also a wonderful symbol of our cultural heritage.

Congratulating the Sikh brotherhood, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that I heartily congratulate the entire Sikh community. He said that this historic decision of declaration of holy cities should have been implemented long ago and with the issuance of notification by the State Government, this decision has now been implemented and now these three cities have officially got the status of holy cities.

He further said that on December 15, 2025, the Government of Punjab has officially issued a notification declaring World City Amritsar in Amritsar district, Sri Anandpur Sahib city in Rupnagar district and Talwandi Sabo (Sri Damdama Sahib) city in Bathinda district as holy cities of the state of Punjab. He said this notification formally grants special status to these cities of historical and religious importance in recognition of their spiritual significance and worldwide reverence.
