China’s technology deflated! GPS system failed, cab booking, food delivery, car navigation everything came to a standstill.

China News: Recently a strange incident happened in China’s eastern city Nanjing. One crore people live in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province. GPS and Beidou satellite navigation system were not working in the city for 6 hours on the evening of 17 December 2025. This problem continued from 4 pm to 10 pm. During this period, services like car navigation, food delivery, cab booking and drones were affected. People who were unaware of the surrounding area could not find out what their location was. Everything came to a standstill for a few hours.

Interesting Engineering’s report states that the Nanjing Satellite Application Industry Association, after investigation, said that the problem was not due to a malfunction of the mobile network, but due to heavy interference and pressure on the signal of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). This interference occurred only on the GPS and BeiDou frequency bands used by people. Due to this, the phone or device could not catch the satellite signal properly. The result was that location information was completely incorrect or not found at all. Even offline map apps could not work as satellite signals are required to locate the location.

No answer to who interfered with GNSS and why

The officials did not tell who did this interference and why. But he indicated that if signal control is done for the security of a major event, then it comes under general security rules. Some reports have claimed that a big event was going on in the city at that time, perhaps that is why this happened. The signals gradually returned to normal after the program ended. All services resumed. People’s navigation apps and location-based services started working fine again.

China’s own satellite navigation system

Let us tell you, BeiDou is China’s own satellite navigation system. The full name is BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). It works like America’s GPS. It provides accurate location tracking, navigation and time information around the world. China has made it itself. It developed in three phases. First only for China, then for the Asia-Pacific region and with the completion of BeiDou-3 in 2020, it became available for the entire world.
